Earlier this month, GivingTuesday announced that estimated overall giving for 2019 reached nearly $2 Billion in the US alone. And the GivingTuesday Data Collaborative reports that in the US, online giving increased from $400 Million in 2018 to $511 Million in 2019.
What better time than now, as we wrap up a month of holiday celebrations, gift giving, generosity, and self-indulgences, to also remember the magic of selfless generosity? This year, for the first time, Fulcrum Partners was privileged to participate in the GivingTuesday massive global movement of generosity.
Created in 2012 as a way to encourage and inspire generosity, GivingTuesday now includes some 200 community campaigns across the US and national movements in more than 60 countries. Perhaps even more significant is the fact that the movement now involves individuals, companies and organized groups from every country in the world.
On their blog, GivingTuesday recently shared these timely thoughts:
“At a time when so much attention is given to what divides us, GivingTuesday, a global generosity movement which unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world, reports another record-breaking day.”
“Generosity is a core trait and value that brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together,” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday Co-founder and CEO. “GivingTuesday creates a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world”.
GivingTuesday strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity, and equity around the globe.
As we approach a new year and a new decade, may we all pursue the joy of living generously…
GivingTuesday is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Ford Foundation, Fidelity Charitable, William & Flora Hewlett Foundation, Lodestar Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation.
